Surface-grafted Europium and Erbium Complexes of the 12-Tungstosilicate Heteropolyoxometalate: A Synthetic and Structural Investigations

The hydrothermal synthesis of two new inorganic-organic hybrid materials in which PDA (PDA = 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxylate) is connected to a well-defined Keggin-type polyoxometalate anion (POM) and a Ln(III) cation (POM = [SiW12O40]4−; Ln = Eu3+ (1), Er3+ (2)), are reported. These hybrids are characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Single-c...

Structural characterization of clusterin-chaperone client protein complexes.

Clusterin (CLU) is a potent extracellular chaperone that inhibits protein aggregation and precipitation otherwise caused by physical or chemical stresses (e.g. heat, reduction). This action involves CLU forming soluble high molecular weight (HMW) complexes with the client protein. Other than their unquantified large size, the physical characteristics of these complexes were previously unknown. ...

Bacterial glyoxalase I enzymes: structural and biochemical investigations.

A number of bacterial glyoxalase I enzymes are maximally activated by Ni2+ and Co2+ ions, but are inactive in the presence of Zn2+, yet these enzymes will also bind this metal ion. The structure-activity relationships between these two classes of glyoxalase I serve as important clues as to how the molecular structures of these proteins control metal-activation profiles.

Biochemical and structural investigations on phosphoribosylpyrophosphate synthetase from Mycobacterium smegmatis

Mycobacterium smegmatis represents one model for studying the biology of its pathogenic relative Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The structural characterization of a M. tuberculosis ortholog protein can serve as a valid tool for the development of molecules active against the M. tuberculosis target. In this context, we report the biochemical and structural characterization of M. smegmatis phosphori...
